Savage Steel

Q&A

Answers to what we get asked most.

Are these knives actually usable, or just decorative?

Every knife we sell is built to be used — hunting, camp work, everyday carry. They're heat treated and sharpened for real work, not display.

What steel do you use?

It depends on the knife. Many are forged from reclaimed railroad spikes; others use 1095 high carbon or 80CrV2 tool steel. See the Steel Types page for details, and each product listing notes its steel. It depends on the knife. Many are forged from reclaimed railroad spikes; others use Pop's ProCut or AEB-L stainless steel. We pick steels that will last over the years and serve the purpose needed. Do you take custom orders?

Yes. Reach out through the Contact page with what you have in mind — blade style, handle material, and any other add-on — and we'll follow up with details and pricing.

How do I care for my knife?

Hand wash and dry immediately after use, keep it lightly oiled, and store it somewhere dry. Avoid the dishwasher.

Do you ship internationally?
